Rising Tide

We all know a rising tide lifts all boats but what about if you're the boat who made the tide rise?!

Recently I was chatting with a friend who was sharing how she noticed a huge difference in how her coworkers treated her after she left the position compared to when on staff. She explained while on staff she pushed herself to try new things & challenge the status quo. Her colleagues somewhat resented this. Yet when she returned a year later they were welcoming, friendly & she noticed how they had adopted many of her ideas they once were annoyed with.

She was confused why.

I commented well you were a Tide Riser! You gave more. Your efforts showed their lack & they resented that. In essence you being your awesome self reflected their lack within themselves. But once you left they felt more comfortable to implement your ideas. And it sounds like your ideas were needed & made a wonderful impact!

Would it have been awesome if they were able to see your efforts and implement them while you were there? Yep. But they didn't really have that capability. Your bright light made them aware of theirs being dim & yet they could only brighten themselves when given the safety of darkness to evolve to be brighter.

Often we have no idea how we're impacting those around us. Sometimes we inspire. Sometimes we piss off. Every person is going to view & interpret us with their own lens. Their lens is shaped by their life experiences & level of emotional awareness.

Our responsibility is to do our best, live in alignment with ourselves & remember to give grace when we recognize others are living with their lens perspective.
